Troy Hurst, PT, DPT, is a physical therapist and health informaticist with a background that combines direct patient care with a strong understanding of electronic health record optimization, clinical workflow design, clinical documentation, and cross-functional collaboration across ambulatory, patient access, revenue cycle, and surgical settings.
In his current role as a Senior Health Informaticist at Optum Insights, Troy works at the intersection of clinical practice and information technology, helping healthcare organizations improve the integration and use of digital systems to support patient care, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and revenue cycle performance. He has extensive experience with Epic applications, including Ambulatory and Resolute Professional Billing, along with work in Cadence, OpTime, and Hospital Billing. His work includes workflow analysis, project and enhancement scoping, testing, implementation support, reporting, and stakeholder alignment across physicians, advanced practice providers, clinical staff, patient access, prior authorization, and revenue cycle teams.
Before moving into informatics, Troy built a strong clinical foundation in outpatient rehabilitation and academic instruction. His physical therapy experience includes treating a broad range of orthopedic, neurologic, vestibular, and balance-related conditions, as well as supporting patients across post-acute and community-based settings. He has also contributed to student and clinician education through teaching and training roles, including work as an adjunct instructor in the Carroll University and Marquette University Doctor of Physical Therapy programs, and as an Epic credentialed trainer.
Troy brings a practical, systems-oriented perspective to every role, with a focus on making clinical workflows more effective for end users while preserving quality, compliance, and patient-centered care. His professional profile reflects a rare combination of clinical credibility, technical fluency, and the ability to translate complex operational needs into workable solutions.
